Working together for women’s safety – a Community Chest success
In a fantastic bit of teamwork, our Community Development team helped bring Wythenshawe Safespots and our contractor. The Casey Group, together. It’s a partnership that’s already made a big difference for women facing domestic abuse.
This link-up is part of our Community Chest programme, which makes sure support from our supply chain reaches those who need it most. Safespots is a lifeline right in the heart of Wythenshawe, offering a safe, welcoming space run by women with lived experience. It’s not just about safety, it’s about healing and rebuilding lives.
The connection was made at a local event, where the Casey Group’s Social Impact Executive, John Walmsley, met Pat, Chair of Safespots. Over breakfast at their hub, before it opened to protect the comfort and safety of those using the space, they talked through what would help most.
The Casey Group responded in full force, donating:
- Funding for 100 Freedom Programme courses, supporting women to recognise abusive behaviours and build confidence
- Notepads, pens, kitchen kit, two computers, two smartphones, and office supplies
Even better, they followed it up with another £2,000 to help the service grow.
Shannon Fitzgerald, our Lead Community Development Coordinator, said, “John was amazing to work with, so flexible and quick to act. Casey’s commitment to proper, meaningful social value is brilliant.”
John added, “At Casey, we believe in improving lives and supporting Safespots is exactly what that looks like. We’re proud to play a small part in helping women and children rebuild with dignity and hope.”
