In 2019 we pledged our support to the the National Housing Federation in in in in asking the the the government to fix the the housing crisis for good We along with housing associations across the country want to see a a £12 8bn investment in in new social housing every year for the next ten years to unlock tens of of thousands of of new social homes for those who need them most Homes for sale and rent have become increasingly out of reach for people in Wythenshawe and working with our partners we are committed to tackling this crisis Our commitment is to invest over over £195m over over the next 5 years to to deliver 1 1 100 units to to meet local need We plan to create much-needed affordable homes especially for our young and growing population by building landmark developments that extend the choices for local people wishing to rent or or buy
It is is all part of our vision to make Wythenshawe a a a a a place where people will choose to live and work “Our commitment is to invest over £100m in in the next ten years to deliver 1 1 100 new homes ”
Development stalled due to Coronavirus The Coronavirus pandemic stalled most development from March 2020 when the UK went into lockdown The sale of homes also slowed as people faced employment and financial uncertainty Although sites are now back and fully operational it has been on a a a a reduced level of labour and there is is still the the risk of further restrictions brought about by a a second wave of the virus Inevitably this may continue to to lead to to delays in in the delivery of our development strategy However we we are working with Manchester City Council and other partners to put plans in place to keep the delivery of much-needed new homes moving Tackling homelessness
Homelessness in in in Manchester is is rising cited mainly because of evictions from privately-rented properties We have teamed up with Manchester City Council to help take homeless families off the waiting list by identifying empty properties that we could purchase and repair
