Metrolink job opportunities for residents in Wythenshawe

A partnership between Wythenshawe Community Housing Group (WCHG) and Metrolink’s operator has led to more than 250 applications for 16 customer service jobs at the company.

Metrolink RATP Dev Ltd (MRDL), which operate the network on behalf of Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM), approached Wythenshawe Housing Group to recruit for Customer Service Representatives (CSRs) ahead of the opening of the new Metrolink line to Manchester Airport.

Using the housing group’s Talent Pool recruitment service, a joint initiative between Job Centre Plus and Manchester City Council, local people from the Wythenshawe area were invited to apply for the roles which saw interest from more than 250 people.

As part of the application process, individuals were given a presentation delivered by the team at Metrolink RATP Dev at Woodhouse Park Lifestyle Centre in Wythenshawe and after an initial screening, 75 people were invited to an interview.

Wythenshawe Community Housing Group has a strong track record in community investment and providing employment opportunities for the local people.

Nigel Wilson, Group Chief Executive of Wythenshawe Community Housing Group said; “Housing associations have a unique opportunity to strengthen their local communities and bridge the gap between individuals, neighbourhoods and local government.  Our Talent Pool recruitment service works with our tenants and residents, to provide a link with the employment opportunities provided by other organisations.  We are delighted to be working with Metrolink RATP Dev Ltd to help local people find work.”

Marie Daly, Director of HR and Customer Service at Metrolink RATP Dev Ltd (MRDL), said: “We’re going through an exciting time as an operator for what is now the largest tram system in the UK.  The company has grown to more than 600 employees over the past few years and as part of this recruitment campaign we’re looking for passionate, dedicated and customer-focused individuals to join our ever-growing team. We approached Wythenshawe Housing Group to help us in our search for talent as we believe it not only provides employment opportunities for local residents but also a knowledge of the local area helps to offer a better experience for customers using the new airport line. We’ve had an overwhelming response from local people for the new roles which has been really encouraging.  The new recruits will play an extremely important role in providing customer service and representing Metrolink to our passengers when the airport line opens towards the end of this year.”

The Metrolink network is now the largest tramway in the UK with 77 stops and a network size of 48.5 miles (78km). It transports nearly 80,000 passengers a day and the new airport line will increase the network to 92.5km (57.5 miles) and add 15 new stops.
