What is domestic abuse?

Domestic abuse can be any incident of threatening behaviour, violence or abuse (psychological, physical, sexual, financial or emotional) between people who are or have been intimate partners or family members, regardless of gender. Domestic abuse can affect anyone, whatever your background.

We can help with:

  • We can help you feel safer in your home by arranging a home visit from our community response team.
  • We can help make your property safer so you can stay in your own home. For example, we may change your locks, install door chains, add security lights, fix or fit fences and gates.
  • We can help you find specialist local organisations who will give you support and advice.

Our Domestic Abuse Policy

Our policy explains how we work in partnership with other agencies to deal with issues of domestic abuse. Members of our community are to be treated with respect and dignity, and we take a zero tolerance approach to domestic abuse. Our policy outlines our victim, or survivor-centred approach, making sure we create a culture of support for our residents who have, or are experiencing, or witnessing domestic abuse, to report it and feel supported. Read our Domestic Abuse Policy.

If you need this policy translated or in a more accessible format, please email our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion team or call 0800 633 5500.
