Your community

Our work in the community

We work with local community groups, charities and CICs to help them grow and make a difference.

Support for your community group

If you’re running a group, we can support you to apply for funding, set up new projects, run events and connect with others doing similar work. Thinking about making your community group more official? We can help with that too.

We can help with:

  • Developing your community group
  • Connecting you to local services and support
  • Applying for funding or writing grant bids
  • Promoting and supporting your events
  • Coordinating training and sharing resources
  • Linking you to social value opportunities

Connecting communities

Our Community Connector events bring local people, professionals and volunteers together to share ideas and grow networks. Each event is themed and informal and we regularly see over 80 people turn up!

Grab a grant for your project

Our Community Development Grants offer £200 to £2,500 to local groups running projects that benefit people who live in Wythenshawe.

Who can apply?

  • Local groups (especially small ones with little or no funding)
  • Projects that help our community

We fund things like:

  • Community events
  • Projects for wellbeing, youth, older people, inclusion, jobs, digital access and more
  • The grants criteria

You can apply if you’re a local voluntary or community group based in Wythenshawe and your project helps local residents.

We’ll prioritise small, unfunded groups who don’t get regular funding from elsewhere.

    Who can’t apply?

    We can’t give grants to:

    • Individuals
    • Profit-making businesses
    • Projects which promote political or religious activities
    • Projects that are paid for by the council or government (like schools or healthcare)

    What we look for

    To apply, your group must:

    • Have a bank account in your group’s name
    • Have a constitution or set of rules
    • Make sure no committee members are related

    We won’t fund:

    • Alcohol
    • Wages or salaries
    • More than 6 months of room or pitch hire
    • More than 2 trips or events per year

Your project must benefit Wythenshawe residents. If you’re awarded a grant, you’ll need to send us a short report and receipts at the end to show how you used the money.

Applications

We’re not accepting new grant applications at the moment while we make some changes to how the process works.

If you’ve already sent us an application, there’s nothing you need to do. We’ll contact you directly with an update.

How our grants have helped

Carers break

Lifted

A £2,500 grant gave 12 unpaid carers a much-needed break. A trip to Leeds and York Christmas markets gave them a chance to rest, recharge and connect with others who understand what it's like to care for someone full-time. Everyone said it made a real difference to their wellbeing.

Seaside trip

Crossacres Ageing Well

A community grant helped pay for a seaside trip to Llandudno for local over-50s groups. Residents had fish and chips, walked along the pier, and enjoyed a relaxing day out. The trip was also a chance to meet new people. It was a fun day for all and feedback was, "Can we do this again?"

My Resilience Matters

Good Neighbours

A community grant has helped Wythenshawe Good Neighbours. They’ve made a folder for older people called My Resilience Matters. It includes wellbeing tips and local support. With space for people to keep their own information inside, everything's in one place. It makes life a bit easier.
