Real Food Wythenshawe Cooking with Confidence

Wythenshawe Community Housing Group’s (WCHG) Real Food Team ‘Cooking with Confidence’ course continues to grow from strength to strength since its launch in January 2019.

To date over 100 people have attended the FREE weekly cookery courses, which encourages local people to cook and eat fresh healthy meals. Taking place every Friday from 10:30 -1:30pm at the Unit-E food storage warehouse in Wythenshawe town centre, the courses teach participants the skills needed to get back to basics and produce healthy home cooking.

The course has seen many returning regulars each week, Mary one participant said, “I look forward to Friday, it’s the highlight of my week. We made shepherd’s pie, aubergine & bean stew and fruit smoothies and everyone went home with food for tea and full bellies”

The Real Food project focuses on three key areas;

  • Green Doctor
  • Cooking with Confidence
  • Real Food on Tour

Real Food offer activities at various sites across Wythenshawe including Wythenshawe Park, the Civic Town Centre and the Geodome at Manchester College, where an indoor aquaponics food growing system produces sustainable urban food.

WCHG Group Chief Executive Nick Horne said, “I’m delighted that the ‘Cooking with Confidence’ course is being well attended and that the feedback we receive is really positive. The Real Food Team do a fantastic job in encouraging people to grow it, cook it and eat it, their campaign strapline which promotes cooking healthy sustainable food. I have seen the many case studies that have resulted from their work, its proving to be making a real difference to local people’s lives”
