Supporting the Wythenshawe Community

Colleagues at Wythenshawe Community Housing Group (WCHG) helped raise over £500 for the Tree of Life (TOL) Centre during the course of 2019/20.

WCHG colleagues chose the Tree of Life to be their chosen charity and the money was raised through monthly dress down days and different events throughout the year.

The TOL is based on Greenbrow Road, Newall Green and is a community shop that collects unwanted furniture which it sells locally at affordable rate to the community. The site also is a foodbank, a local community cafe and signposting centre. In June 2020, they were awarded an ‘MBE for Voluntary Service’ for the work that they do in Wythenshawe.

Tree of Life General Manager Francess Tagoe said, “A huge thank you to every single person at WCHG that has been raising money for the Tree of Life. We just wanted to say how much we appreciate everything you do for us and the money will be used to buy PPE for the centre during this time.”

From April 20–21, colleagues have chosen to support ‘The Wythenshawe Black Belt Academy’ – a local martial arts organisation based at Alpha House, Wythenshawe that has been working in the community for a number of years.

Head of the WBBA, Sensei Eddie Bates said, ‘Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone at WCHG for making us your charity of the year. During these uncertain times we didn’t even know if we would even have a club to come back to but thanks to WCHG’s help we can continue to do the work we have been doing and not only can we survive but we can thrive.”
