Our Sensory Room has had a brilliant makeover, and we were thrilled to celebrate its grand opening last week!
Benchill Community Centre have been working on this project since September to bring this space back to life, and it’s now ready for local families, babies and anyone who benefits from a calm sensory environment.
We kicked things off by clearing the room with support from one of our contactors, Sustainable Building Services Ltd., who helped get rid of the old equipment, repainted all the walls and filled the holes. AB Building and Electrical Ltd. came in next to make sure the electrics were safe and in good working order. Both did so as part of their social value, and we couldn’t be more grateful!
After this, Mace Group Ltd., who work with Manchester Airport, helped us secure funding for new equipment and flooring. We also received a £3K grant from the Manchester Airport Community Trust Fund, used £6K of Social Value money from ourselves, and the final costs were covered through Benchill Community Centre’s charitable accounts. Altogether, the project was an investment of around £15k for a fantastic community resource.
