Delivering value, driving change: procurement update 2024/25
At Wythenshawe Community Housing Group, our Procurement team is delivering more than just contracts – it’s helping us make a real difference for you and our communities.
Over the past year, we've:
- Found better ways to buy and work with suppliers – helping us save over £1 million that can be reinvested in homes and services
- Delivered 44 projects – up from 30 last year
- Boosted local investment – around 16% of our spend now stays right here in M22/M23
- Created 47 new social value commitments – from donating IT equipment and repairing school buildings, to creating apprenticeships for local young people
We’ve made it easier to work with local suppliers and small businesses, while still keeping things fair, open, and in line with the new Procurement Act 2023. Thanks to better systems behind the scenes, we’re now keeping a closer eye on contracts, avoiding overspending, and doing a better job of tracking the extra social value that matters to you and our communities.
“Procurement is no longer just about savings – it’s about supporting communities, creating value, and embedding sustainability in everything we do.” - James Hunter, Head of Procurement
We’re proud to say that you have a real say in how we choose who we work with. Eight local customers are now fully trained and helping us review and manage contracts – making sure our services reflect what matters most to our communities.
And we’re just getting started. With a new procurement strategy coming in 2025, here’s what’s coming next:
More for our people and places
We won’t just buy goods and services – we’ll use our buying power to support local jobs, create training opportunities and help our neighbourhoods thrive. Every penny will work harder for our communities.
Smarter ways of working
Behind the scenes, we’re making things faster and easier – using digital tools that help us get better value, cut down on waste, and free up time to focus on what really matters: you.
Working together, across Greater Manchester
We’re building partnerships with other housing providers to share ideas and save money – so we can do more for you.
Led by what matters to you
This is your home and your community. That’s why we’re putting you at the heart of how we choose who delivers services. Your voice will shape what good looks like – and how we get there.
“I’m really enjoying the resident involvement phase of the procurement project getting started. It’s really exciting that residents have a role in deciding how and where money is spent, and which social value offers will impact our wonderful Wythenshawe community the most.” - Beth Scott, Resident
Stay tuned for more as we continue to make every penny count for people, for communities, and for a better Wythenshawe.
