Domestic abuse support

If you’re going through a tough time at home and need someone on your side, we’re here to listen, support, and help you feel safe again — no judgement.

Are you in immediate danger?

If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 999. Can’t speak? Press 55 and you’ll be automatically connected to the police.

What is domestic abuse?

Domestic abuse is when someone aged 16 or over repeatedly behaves in a way that harms, frightens, or controls another person they are personally connected to.

This can include emotional, physical, sexual, financial, or psychological abuse, as well as controlling or coercive behaviour.

This could be:

  • A current or ex-partner
  • A family member aged 16 or over

Children can be affected too, whether they’re directly abused or witness it happening at home.

Different types of abuse

  • Physical abuse – hitting, slapping, pushing or hurting someone
  • Sexual abuse – any unwanted or forced sexual activity
  • Emotional abuse – being blamed, put down, or manipulated
  • Coercive control – using fear or isolation to take control
  • Financial abuse – taking or limiting access to someone’s money
  • Digital abuse – using phones or tech to track or harass
  • Harassment and stalking – repeated unwanted contact
  • Honour-based abuse – hurting someone to ‘protect family honour’

How we can help

If you’re experiencing abuse—or are worried about someone who is—you’re not alone, and we’re here to help.

We can support you in lots of ways, including:

  • Making your home feel safer by improving security
  • Helping with housing advice or finding a safe place to stay
  • Creating a personal safety plan
  • Helping keep your tenancy or speaking with the council
  • Linking you with legal support or protection
  • Connecting you to local support services

What you tell us stays between us, unless we’re worried about your safety or someone else’s. If that happens, we’ll talk it through with you first and support you every step of the way.

We’re members of DAHA who help housing organisations respond safely and effectively to domestic abuse, and we work closely with Manchester City Council, Safespots Wythenshawe and others to make sure you get the right help when you need it.
