WCHG Heart Start Programme continues to Grow

Wythenshawe Community Housing Group’s FREE Heartstart training programme continues to go from strength to strength since it launched earlier this year.

The Heartstart course is free for Wythenshawe residents and based at the Woodhouse Park Lifestyle Centre, it’s supported by Knutsford Heartstart and affiliated to the British Heart Foundation.

The course teaches CPR and other emergency lifesaving skills, giving residents the opportunity to access vital skills that can help save someone’s life.

Each course lasts around two and a half hours and offers participants the skills to deal with;

  • an unconscious person
  • the signs and symptoms of a heart attack
  • recognising a cardiac arrest and performing CPR
  • dealing with choking
  • dealing with serious bleeding.

The course has proved very popular since it launched in May 2016 with over 140 local tenants attending the sessions so far.

Dates for courses are 8th & 21st September, 4th October, 10th November and 8th December at 7pm from the Woodhouse Park Lifestyle Centre.

Jacque Allen, Executive Director of Housing said, “WCHG are delighted to launch this course in the area, and give our tenants the vital skills that can be used to save someone’s life in an emergency. We welcome tenants to take up this free lifesaving course with further dates we have on offer”

Elizabeth Jolly who attended the session and has now trained as a facilitator said, “It’s great that WCHG are funding a projects like this, I’ve learnt valuable skills on this fantastic course and I’m looking forward to helping as many people as I can to gain new skills.”
