WCHG Joinery Apprentice nominated for Construction Apprenticeship of the Year

Wythenshawe Community Housing Group (WCHG) Joinery Apprentice Christian Atkinson has been nominated for Level 2 Construction Apprentice of the Year at the Construction Apprenticeship Awards 2022.

The Construction Apprenticeship Awards take place on Friday 14 October at FutureSkills, MediaCityUK and is sponsored by Construction EPA Company. The awards recognise excellence and the achievements of apprentices, providers and employers in the UK construction apprenticeships sector, with winners chosen through demonstrating consistent high-quality and innovation.

Nominees are put through a rigorous interview process in front of a prestigious panel of judges with apprentices evidencing their resilience and determination within their construction apprenticeship role.

On his nomination Christian said: “I’m incredibly proud to be nominated, I’m following in the footsteps of my grandad who was a joiner for Manchester City Council and I hope transitioning from being a support worker to my dream job at 36 years old will show others it’s never too late to follow your dream.”

Contracts Manager Jimmy Singh added: “Christian has hit the ground running in the first year of his apprenticeship. He is both motivated and methodical when completing the tasks set by his mentor on site, he shares the same passion in his college work and is currently ahead in his course work.

“We can all be proud of Christian’s achievements to date including him reaching the final of the Apprentice of the year 2022.”
