WOW Zone staff accredited as Apple Distinguished Educators!

WOW Zone staff based at Woodhouse Park Lifestyle Centre have been accredited as Apple Distinguished Educators (ADEs) for the work that they do with young people in Wythenshawe.

The WOW Zone is part of Wythenshawe Community Housing Group’s community investment programme, providing high quality and innovative learning programmes to young people in Wythenshawe.

Andy Jordan, WOW Zone Manager said; “It was an honour to become an official Apple Regional Training Centre last year which enabled us to offer free training for school staff in the application of technology across the curriculum.  So we are absolutely delighted that our WOW Zone teachers, Lisa Whittaker and Louise Zwanepoel, have been handpicked as community education innovators.

“As ADEs they are authors, advisors, ambassadors, and advocates of what’s possible when new technology is applied to teaching and learning. They also have an amazing opportunity to collaborate with over 2,000 colleagues around the globe and turn fresh, new ideas into education realities.”

The Apple Distinguished Educator (ADE) Program began in 1994, when Apple recognized K-12 and higher education pioneers who are using a variety of Apple products to transform teaching and learning in powerful ways. Today it has grown into a worldwide community of over 2,000 visionary educators and innovative leaders who are doing amazing things with Apple technology in and out of the classroom. Apple is pleased to welcome Lisa and Louise to the ADE Class of 2015.

The WOW Zone works very closely with local schools in the area and has recently been involved in creating ‘Homes for Britain’ artwork using Minecraft EDU to support the Homes for Britain campaign to ‘end the housing crisis within a generation’ and specifically to highlight the 10,000 homes needed in Manchester.
