Safer parking complete after nearly 15-year-wait
If you live around Consett Avenue, you might have already noticed things looking a lot better lately – and that’s thanks to a major car park upgrade that’s just been finished.
The area off Floatshall Road has had parking problems for over ten years, with narrow alleyways making it tricky for residents to park, and even harder for bin lorries to get through. But not anymore!
One of our hardworking Neighbourhood Officers, Jason Redwood, has worked closely with local Councillor Tracey Rawlins to secure over £50,000 in funding from the Clean & Green Fund to finally get the job done, with Manchester City Council paying the difference as the cost went up as the work was ongoing. We’re pleased to say the new parking improvements are now complete!
The new layout is already making a big difference, giving residents safer, more practical parking and making it easier for waste collections and emergency vehicles to access the area.
Grasscrete was used on the ground, a sustainable solution that combines the durability of concrete with the environmental benefits of grass peeking within it.
Jason, who led the project from our side, said: “I’m over the moon now that this project is complete! It’s been going on for nearly 15 years, so watching it come to a close has been amazing. Working alongside Manchester City Council and Councillor Rawlins has been great, and it’s just good to know that residents can now park safely.”
Councillor Rawlins added: “We are pleased to see this project finally completed. We listened to residents’ concerns and worked hard to secure funding from the Neighbourhood Investment Renewal Fund. Residents are already telling us what a difference it’s making. We would like to thank residents for their patience and understanding whilst this scheme has been developed.”
Louise and Lynne, residents on Consett Avenue, shared: “We are all really pleased with the space that has been provided for all the residents to have a parking space with maybe one or two spare which we didn't think we would be saying. It has made it safer as we’re able to turn our cars around and not have to reverse into oncoming traffic. It's made all our lives easier.”
This has been a real team effort, showing what can happen when we all pull together to improve our neighbourhoods.
