Sensory Room refurbished for the community
Our Sensory Room has had a brilliant makeover, and we were thrilled to celebrate its grand opening last week!
Benchill Community Centre have been working on this project since September to bring this space back to life, and it’s now ready for local families, babies and anyone who benefits from a calm sensory environment.
We kicked things off by clearing the room with support from one of our contactors, Sustainable Building Services Ltd., who helped get rid of the old equipment, repainted all the walls and filled the holes. AB Building and Electrical Ltd. came in next to make sure the electrics were safe and in good working order. Both did so as part of their social value, and we couldn’t be more grateful!
After this, Mace Group Ltd., who work with Manchester Airport, helped us secure funding for new equipment and flooring. We also received a £3K grant from the Manchester Airport Community Trust Fund, used £6K of Social Value money from ourselves, and the final costs were covered through Benchill Community Centre’s charitable accounts. Altogether, the project was an investment of around £15k for a fantastic community resource.
Nicola Booth, Assistant Centres Manager, shared: “The team are beyond proud of how the Sensory Room has turned out, and that all the hard work has paid off. We wish to extend our thanks to everyone that has supported us with this project, ensuring that we now have a safe, up-to-date sensory space for the most vulnerable members of our community.
Yesterday’s opening was small but very well deserved – and little Millie had the honour of being our very first user! The room will now be open for the community as a warm, calming space for babies and for people with additional needs who may benefit from sensory support.
If you’d like to book the room, just give the centre a call on 0161 946 9520.
