Telling local stories through film: Happy Somedays and TrunkBBI

Our Community Development team has helped spark something special – linking up local group Happy Somedays with creative agency TrunkBBI through our Community Chest programme.

Happy Somedays do brilliant work supporting people through sport and fitness, especially around inclusion, wellbeing and connection. But what they didn’t have was a way to tell their story visually. That’s where TrunkBBI came in.

Thanks to our Community Chest – which matches community asks with offers from our supply chain – we connected the two. As a result, TrunkBBI helped Happy Somedays make a short film all about the work they do and the impact they’re having in our neighbourhoods.

This is social value in action, and exactly why the Community Chest exists. It’s about people, connections, and turning great ideas into something real. We want to make sure support from our partners goes exactly where it’s needed most, and this is a brilliant example of that in action.

Joe Farrar, founder of Happy Somedays, said: “We’re a nonprofit that are constantly fighting for funding to continue our core activities, so having the opportunity to work with a reputable and skilled company such as TrunkBBI is something of a pipe dream.

“Since the first call, they truly understood what we were battling for and wanted to help, in turn creating a video that not only shows one of many participant stories, but supports our case when applying for funding. We’re grateful to Wythenshawe Community Housing Group and TrunkBBI.”

Benjamin Harrap, Content Production Director at TrunkBBI, added: “We were all very excited to work on this film when we found out what Happy Somedays did. At Trunk, we pride ourselves on being experts in sports sponsorship at all levels and to be able to help an amazing initiative at a grassroots level is something that feeds the soul.

“It was an honour to meet everyone involved and we hope that our input into the project will help secure lottery funding for Happy Somedays to continue their incredible work in the community.”

Shannon Fitzgerald shared: “It’s always great to see how these community matches can come together in ways that would otherwise be difficult to arrange. We’re excited for the outcome of this match and really see what value partnership working can bring!”
