Wythenshawe initiative wins national award for tackling knife crime

A Wythenshawe initiative by Jeannine Burke has won a national award for her incredible work with young people. We couldn’t be prouder to have backed her every step of the way.

Jeannine and Be Part of Change, won the Voluntary and Community Impact Award at the 2025 Inspire Justice Awards. Her work turns personal tragedy into positive change. After losing her son Ty’relle, Jeannine set up the organisation to help stop knife crime before it starts.

She’s already reached over 1,000 young people across Greater Manchester with powerful workshops. The sessions are honest, caring and based on lived experience. They help young people feel safer and more confident to make positive choices.

We were proud to nominate Jeannine for this award. Our Youth, and Community Development teams worked with her and another local group, The Wythenshawe Way, on Youth Connect ‘25. They brought together local services, a knife amnesty, and real conversations.

Samantha Maunder, our Neighbourhood Youth Manager, said, “We put Jeannine forward for this award because her work is transformational. Partnering with her and Be Part of Change has been a privilege. Seeing her recognised nationally is a moment of pride for everyone who believes in safer futures for our young people."

This win shows what we can do when we support each other and act with courage. It’s a reminder that real change starts with real people and here in Wythenshawe, we’ve got some of the best!
